UPDATED: Coroner Elisabeth Armitage has prohibited media from reporting the details of an application made by former police officer Zach Rolfe that calls for her to recuse herself from the inquest into the death of Kumanjayi Walker on the grounds of “apprehended bias”.
The application was filed on Friday, with the ABC on Monday evening reporting that the allegations of apprehended bias centred around a two-day visit to Yuendumu as part of the inquest last November, in which Ms Armitage took part in a “yarning circle” and traditional face painting by community members, while also visiting the “Memory House” where Mr Walker was shot and killed by Mr Rolfe after he stabbed the officer in the shoulder with scissors in November 2019.

Everything I have seen so far seems to be a witch hunt on the attitudes of police lower ranks. There seems to have been nobody in control of the situation on site in Yuendumu. The station sergeant seems to have removed herself from controlling anything after her partner was threatened with an axe. How is it that an officer in a remote police station can be in a relationship with a lower ranking officer?
