A 41-year-old male police officer is facing a string of firearms offences and has been served with a notice to appear before the Katherine Local Court in March, NT Police said.
Details of the allegations or any particular incident were not provided.
Police said in a short statement that the officer is facing five charges including possessing or using a firearm whilst unlicensed, possessing ammunition without a permit or licence, failing to comply with storage requirements and two counts of possessing, using or carrying a prohibited weapon.
The statement said the unnamed officer is scheduled to appear in Katherine Local Court on March 14.
Police did not say if the officer was suspended with pay while the matter is dealt with.
“The matter is under investigation by Crime Command and the Professional Standards Command,” the statement said.
“As the matter is now before the courts, no further information will be provided. This information is provided in accordance with the NT Police Transparency Guidelines.”
