The Finocchiaro CLP Government has “betrayed the trust of thousands” by scrapping the plan to underground power lines across Darwin, the Opposition says, while the government said “it looks like” it has found $200 million in savings from “deferring” that project and others, but their figures do not appear to add up.
Treasurer Bill Yan held a brief press conference on an hour’s notice early Tuesday morning to announce the “budget savings”, including indefinitely postponing the undergrounding of power lines project that was budgeted to cost $60 million over the next four years, “suspending” negotiations with the National Basketball League for a local franchise and “deferring” a $20 million upgrade to the Darwin Convention Centre for basketball games.
Did over 12,000 NT Public Servants finish up their employment in the NT Public Service over the last two years ? If so why?
Why are there no statistics of the total individual independent contractors who are hired by the NT Public Service ? Why the secret?
How employees that do not show up in the NTPS State of the Service Report are hired in the NT Public Service by external labour hire firms ?
Power Water have a bucket load of people ranging from Admin Staff to Tradies working for them via a ABN so they do not show up on the Headcount stats and to avoid the recruitment process.
I wonder what CEO Djuna Pollard thinks about this?
The underground power lines have been an on and off project since 1975.
Good idea for PowerWater to start fixing leaking sewers first. The ones that spew raw sewage onto our streets every time we get a heavy rain.
