The Finocchiaro CLP Government has mandated that all NT public schools must play and sing the national anthem at assemblies and special events, which Education Minister Jo Hersey said was necessary to “restore national pride”.

With the new school term set to commence across the Territory on Thursday, all 152 public schools will also teach students about “national symbols”, including the anthem, and “what it means to the Australian identity through the Civics and Citizenship learning area in the Australian curriculum”.
