Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro has revealed her shadow ministry that will attempt to hold the Gunner Labor Government accountable over the next four years, giving herself the key roles of shadow Treasurer and shadow Police Minister.
All eight elected CLP members have been given roles.
“I have tremendous faith in the capacity of each CLP member to hold the Gunner Government to account,” Ms Finocchairo said. “We have a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds which make us an agile and formidable team.
Besides Treasury and Police, Ms Finocchairo will also be the Opposition spokeswoman for Major Projects and Territory Economic Reconstruction, as well as the newly created positions of Strategic Defence Relations and Northern Australia Trade.
“I want the Chief Minister to know that I personally will be scrutinising everything he says and does,” she said.
“I have also taken on the role of Shadow Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services as community safety is the most important role of any government.”
Deputy Opposition Leader Gerard Maley will be the spokesman for Infrastructure, Multicultural Affairs, Defence Industries, Recreational Fishing, Alcohol policy and National Resilience.
Member for Barkly Steve Edgington, a former police superintendent with a background in law, will be the shadow Attorney-General, as well as spokesman for Mining and Industry, Aboriginal Affairs, Children and Treaty.
Opposition Whip Josh Burgoyne, who won the Alice Springs seat of Braitling, will hold opposition responsibility for Territory Families and Urban Housing, as well as Renewables and Energy and Climate Change.
“We all now begin our work as a strong Opposition to hold the Gunner Government to account and continue to connect with people right across the Territory on the issues that matter to them,” Ms Finocchiaro said.
