The ALP are a dangerous and should never be allowed near tax payers money again! Massive intergenerational debt with over half a billion in interest annually! No interest in getting the housing commission customers, core Labor voters, debt down! No interest in the long suffering neighbours of the Publically funded ghetto houses!!
That is the most mindless analysis of a social problem I have ever encountered. ‘Victims of Crime’ NT chief executive Gerard McGeough needs to be sacked, right now, not later. He has no grasp of reality. (Members, deal with this). The problem of homelessness is well-understood but it is multi-streamed and the Aboriginal component was caused directly by public service corruption in 1983, now irrelevant. No person should ever have been accepted as a tenant in NT Housing unless he/she can demonstrate capacity and willingness to satisfy basic criteria. Such assessment has always been in the hands of absolute incompetents.
It was already known in 1995 that tenants with predictable inability to satisfy criteria were damaging dwellings, with repair bills exceeding the value of rent paid, on category average, by up to 500%. It was a conscious decision to not confront this reality because of fear of the media; criminal irresponsibility classically demonstrated by the Don Dale saga. The problem of dangerous tenants, or visitors to the homes of tenants, is a direct result of police and housing authority figures being intimidated by political correctness, which itself is generated by the media and backed by ideological academics. The first line of attack must be the enacting of laws making such cynical media manipulation of government a criminal offence. Specifically, the managers of the NT News and ABC should have been arrested, tried and imprisoned for their deliberate distortions of the truth. Thus, it is evident that the core of the problem is ignorant, narcissist, and gutless politicians. Talk about back to square one. most
One of the problems with rent payments is that the tenant signs to have rent deducted from their Centrelink and after a time (often short) they go into Centrelink and cancel the deduction. A few weeks go by before the Housing people realise payments have stopped. In the meantime the extended family and hangers-on have moved in and no-one is responsible for damage and no-one knows where the tenant is (sometimes still in the dwelling). More time passes in trying to locate the tenant and so the debt grows and grows. Then the decision to evict all and sundry takes more weeks because who do they address the eviction to? This is a historical way of dodging payments by countrymen for many, many years. And people wonder why we in the private rental market are so choosy!
Can I laugh now or when the “poor-bugger-me” supporters start threatening to protest and disrupt public services?
