The tragic death of a 4-year-old girl who was reportedly killed by a falling palm tree in a Darwin northern suburb on Saturday afternoon is still under investigation by NT Police, who issued a statement on Monday to correct that the girl was four and not seven as initially reported.
Police said they received a call around 1:55pm Sunday that a child had been struck by a falling tree while playing in her backyard in Tiwi, with an 11-year-old boy also being struck by the tree.
The girl was rushed to Royal Darwin Hospital, but passed away before she could be admitted, police said. The 11-year-old boy sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police said that they do not believe the incident is suspicious.
The incident is being investigated, and a report to the coroner will be prepared.
Details of how the tree came down were not disclosed.
“Investigations into the tragic incident remain ongoing,” police said on Monday.

So terribly tragic and sad. A freak accident. Condolences to family and friends of the little angel. 😢
