The Northern Territory’s Chief Health Officer says he is now working with the Environment Protection Authority to assess Inpex’s historical under-reporting of toxic emissions from its Ichthys LNG facility in Darwin, while an “independent investigator” has also been tasked to verify all of the gas giant’s data.
It follows EPA chair Paul Vogel recusing himself from any involvement in the investigation due to perceived conflicts of interest with the company, after the ABC revealed last month that Mr Vogel was a paid consultant for a lobbying firm that worked for Inpex. Mr Vogel maintained he has no conflict of interest.
