An NT hunter has shared a gory experience with pictures of massive gouges out of his leg after a panicked, wounded buffalo ran amok and ferociously attacked him.

Chris McSherry survived the buffalo attack but was seriously wounded. He underwent two surgeries with possible skin grafts to follow after being flown to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Mr McSherry recounted his gruesome encounter with the buffalo in a Facebook post. His profile says he lives on Gove, aka Nhulunbuy, but he did not say where he was hunting.

He remains positive to be able to hunt in the future as he recovers.
