An 18-year-old male has been arrested after police allege he indecently assaulted “a boy aged between 12 and 16” who was not known to him at a supermarket in the Alice Springs CBD Wednesday afternoon.

Police said in a statement the incident was reported around 2:30pm. The victim reportedly fought off the teen who allegedly indecently assaulted him, with the suspect fleeing the scene.

Police arrived and reviewed CCTV footage at the shop before arresting the 18-year-old male located shortly after 3:30pm on Todd Street.

“He remains in custody with charges expected to follow,” police media director Mark Wilton said in the statement.
