The Barkly Regional Council has been placed under management by Local Government Minister Chanston Paech following calls by a former councillor in the NT Independent for the minister to sack the members, which also follows a video of Mayor Jeffrey McLaughlin sitting on a child while another man yelled at him, threatened him, and forced his head down with a boot.
In a gazette notice on Tuesday, Mr Paech said under Section 318 of the Local Government Act he had appointed Peter Holt to manage the council, and central Australian lawyer Ruth Morley to investigate the workings of council and report back to him by March 12.
