A female was allegedly indecently assaulted by a male in an Alice Springs car park on Monday afternoon, NT Police said, sparking a public call for witnesses.
NT Police said the female, who they did not identify as an adult, was walking in the Coles car park on Railway Terrace at around 1:30pm when she was approached by a “group of males, one of whom indecently assaulted her as he walked past”.
Police said a witness to the indecent assault assisted the “female to safety”, but again did not explain whether she was a child or an adult.
It’s the second indecent assault in Alice Springs in less than a week, following the indecent assault of a pregnant woman who was walking on the footpath behind the shopping centre on Gregory Terrace at around 5:20pm last Tuesday, when she was approached by two male Aboriginal youths and allegedly indecently assaulted before the pair fled.
The woman had described the offender as being aged between 10-and15-years-old.
It appears that suspect is still at large, as the police media team have not updated the public.
It is unclear whether the two indecent assaults are connected.
Police did not offer a description of the suspect in the latest incident.
“Police wish to speak to the person who assisted the female, and urge any other witnesses to contact them on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” said media manager Rob Cross in a statement.
“Motorists with dashcam who were travelling in the area of Railway Terrace/Coles car park around that time, are urged to contact police on 131 444 and reference PROMIS number 9983997.”
