Business and Asian Relations Minister Robyn Cahill will also fly to Bali this week for a conference, two days after Deputy Chief Minister Gerard Maley announced he was heading to Indonesia for livestock talks and to officially open a steakhouse in Seminyak, but it is unclear if the two ministers will cross paths while overseas.
Ms Cahill said she was “spearheading a high-level delegation” this week to Bali for the 2025 Indonesia Australia Business Conference, “where the Northern Territory is proud to be a gold sponsor”.
The cost for Ms Cahill and “advisers” was listed as “approximately” $2,500, compared to Mr Maley’s $7,000 trip. Both figures were only estimates, the government said, with the total costs for each trip to be determined later.
A statement announcing Ms Cahill’s trip said the conference would provide a platform for “business leaders to forge critical partnerships and explore market trends in the region”.
Ms Cahill’s office did not say who from the NT was involved in the “high-level delegation”. The conference runs from Wednesday until Friday at the Anvaya Beach Resort in Bali.
Her office said she would meet with Indonesian officials “to promote the Territory’s strengths in critical minerals, agriculture, and the digital economy, as well as progressing the Critical Minerals Memorandum of Understanding signed between Indonesia and the NT Government in November 2024”.
“In its first year, the MoU has delivered joint ministerial visits, industry exchange, participation in key investment forums and targeted engagement on mining royalties, supply chain development and strengthened collaboration paving the way for new pathways for trade and investment,” Ms Cahill said.
“This delegation is a demonstration of our government’s commitment to strengthening our relationships into the Asian region and underpins the work being undertaken to rebuild our economy.”
Meanwhile, Mr Maley said on Monday he was leading a delegation of NT livestock representatives this week to Indonesia, including the NT Cattlemen’s Association and the NT Live Exporters Association, to “strengthen international partnerships” and promote the “boxed beef trade”.
Part of Mr Maley’s trip involves attending the official opening of Top End Beef, a new butcher shop and steakhouse located in the upscale shopping area of Seminyak. Mr Maley said the establishment will feature Territory beef, while also “celebrating the strong commercial ties between Indonesia and the Northern Territory”.

They are laughing at all of you.
