Starting today, tourists and Territorians can take advantage of a 25 per cent discount on various tourism and hospitality packages across the NT between February 29 and April 30, for travel until the end of April this year, the government announced, but failed to say how much it will cost.
The new scheme will involve discounted packages including tours to Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks, exploring the Katherine region, artistic experiences in the Barkly region, and the spectacular landscapes of the Red Centre.
The discounts will be capped at $5,000.
“For many families, the Easter break offers a great opportunity to holiday at home or venture a little further, so whether it’s a jumping croc tour or a visit to one of the Territory’s many holiday parks, Territorians can experience the best of the NT for less these school holidays,” Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Joel Bowden said.
The government said the discount scheme is also a strategic move to boost the local tourism industry by encouraging travel and exploration within the NT, but would not say what they anticipated the costs to taxpayers to be.
The new scheme was warmly welcomed by tourism peak bodies who have seen business drop.
“Today is an exciting day for Tourism Top End and our members. We’re thrilled to have partnered with the Territory Government on this scheme. We hope Territorians will get behind their local tourism operators and book a unique Territory experience,” Tourism Top End general manager Samantha Bennett said.
Tourism Central Australia CEO Danial Rochford said local operators and tourism businesses are looking forward to seeing the bookings come through after a down season.
