A group of Alice Springs citizens restrained a flasher until police arrived after he allegedly exposed himself and assaulted an employee at a business in town on Tuesday morning, NT Police said.

Police said at around 8:30am reports were made of a man exposing himself in the area of Stuart Terrace, between Bath St and the Stuart Hwy, near the western edge of the Royal Flying Doctor Service lawns.

“Police arrived at the scene and found the man had been restrained by members of the public,” police media manager Rob Cross said in a statement.

“He was taken to the Alice Springs Watch House and charged with two counts of gross indecency in a public place, one count of unlawful entry and one count of aggravated assault. He will appear before court today.”

Police are calling for anyone who witnessed the incident or have information, including dash-cam footage from the area, to come forward.

“Please contact police on 131 444 or you can report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Please quote reference 9963243,” Mr Cross said.
