An Alice Springs man has won $25 million in the Powerball jackpot, the largest individual lottery win in NT history, but says he doesn’t plan to quit his day job.
The winner, a local dad whose name and age was not released by lotto officials, said he accidentally left his ticket in his ute for days, which caused much speculation in the town when the winner did not immediately come forward.
He was one of two national winners of a division one ticket in Powerball draw 1534, held last Thursday. Each winner received $25 million, with the other winner located in Western Australia.
Despite winning the Powerball, the winner said that he has no intention of quitting his job and is committed to continuing to work for years to come.
“I had no idea,” the man said in a press release.
“The missus actually reminded me to check my Powerball ticket this morning. I grabbed the ticket, which had been sitting in my ute the entire time, and checked it in front of her.
“We couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw we had won $25 million. My wife nearly fainted!”
The winning entry was sold at The Lucky Charm, Alice Springs, Shop 3-5 Coles Complex, 45 Railway Terrace, Alice Springs.
In Powerball draw 1534 on October 9, the winning numbers were 11, 21, 15, 28, 10, 20, and 24, with the Powerball number being 20. Two division one winning entries were recorded from the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
In total, The Lott has had 327 division one wins in 2025, with 132 of those won by Tatts customers.
This year, the NT is enjoying a remarkable winning streak, having scored five major lottery wins that have together brought in over $28.59 million in prize money.
In FY25, over 123.8 million winners received more than $4.1 billion in prize money across the country from various games at The Lott, including Powerball and TattsLotto.
Additionally, Australia’s official lotteries contributed over $1.66 billion through state taxes and donations to support community initiatives, including hospitals and education.
