A letter from Tina MacFarlane – Candidate for Solomon 2022

As your Country Liberal Party candidate for the seat of Solomon, I am seeking your support at the Federal Election on Saturday, 21 May 2022

Solomon residents deserve a strong and vocal Member of Parliament. If I am elected, I intend to be a representative who fights for all the residents of Solomon in the Australian Parliament.

Tina MacFarlane on the Campaign Trail

My businesses over the years have been built and galvanised through sheer determination, hard work, commitment and conviction. My husband is a born-and-bred Territorian. We own our home in Darwin, where we live with our adult daughter, a Territory-educated and qualified Civil Engineer.

For over 35 years throughout various locations around the Territory, I’ve lived and worked metro, regional, and remote amassing enormous knowledge, experience and understanding engaging with business, government and the community.

Strength, resourcefulness and dedication are all elements contributing to the essence of us Territorians.

Solomon residents need a representative who:

  • can connect business with government, and someone who can offer solutions;
  • has business experience and understands effective and driven representation of the Top End’s needs, directly into Canberra’s decision making; and
  • is on pace with the shift and understands businesses’ renewed priorities and sentiment in market-driven innovation, supply chain integration and step-change in delivery and growth.

It’s also important that Solomon residents consider the policies and the achievements of the Coalition. I know from door-knocking and canvassing Solomon that the following issues are important to residents:

Tax relief and addressing the cost of living

Our record on delivering a strong economy means we are able to offer lower taxes, including for around 53,000 taxpayers in Solomon who will benefit this year from tax relief of up to $1,500, made up of the $1,080 low-and-middle income tax offset and a $420 cost of living tax offset.

The Coalition has also taken practical measure to reduce the cost of fuel by halving the fuel excise. Territorians will save 22 cents a litre every time they fill up their tank for the next six months, which is an estimated saving of $30 a week for a 2-car family.

Making housing affordable

The Prime Minister recently announced the extension of the government’s Home Guarantee Scheme which assists home buyers by allowing them to buy a property with as little as a five per cent deposit. Hundreds of Territorians have already accessed the scheme and there are people in their homes today because of it.

Better Health

Funding for public hospitals continues to increase, up 163 per cent since 2013. The Coalition has funded 2,900 new or amended medicines on the PBS and made Telehealth permanent on Medicare.

Let’s work and achieve great things together.

Tina MacFarlane is the Country Liberal Senate candidate for Solomon.
