A call to Northern Territory business – protect your business, protect public interest journalism

The NT Independent does not accept government advertising.

We do not want to be under any government influence because we are keeping the bastards honest – to borrow a line from Don Chip in 1980.

The control of the state is already too strong in the NT.

The NT Independent launched in March 2019 to fill a desperate need – the need for vital public interest journalism, driven by deep skepticism and providing more steak and less sizzle.

We saw it as correcting a disturbing lack of media oversight of government.

But our survival depends on business advertising and anonymous support, and we need more support.

Aside from our editorial mission, our drive is also to offer an affordable advertising platform for local businesses.

So, now we need your business’s help to protect independent, public interest journalism by contributing money to fund our work.

For just $50 a month, your logo could join businesses that are already publicly supporting us and promoting themselves at the same time.

To sign up click this link and follow the instructions on the page.

We’ll add your logo for all our readers to see and a link back to your website to help promote your business or a particular product that you are selling.

Alternatively, if you want to support us in a slightly more covert way, you can donate anonymously here. The anonymity of our donators is as valued as much as the anonymity of our sources. If you prefer to donate directly and not via the portal then email [email protected] to find out how to do that. Any contribution helps.

The NT Independent wants to dig deeper, to hold the government, other politicians, and the public service to greater account. To expose corruption, reveal mismanagement and shine a spotlight on misfeasance. And to scrutinise policy and major projects planned for the NT.

We want them to know someone is watching what they’re doing.

And we’ve already broken important stories that no other NT media outlets have or could.

The Gunner Government, has banned us from its press conferences and from asking information of the supposedly apolitical public service because they are scared of what we will ask and what we will unearth.

We have always envisioned the NT Independent being the center for community debate about the major issues and what matters to you. Your support is vital to us continuing to bring you the independent, unbiased journalism the NT deserves. Just imagine the NT with out it.
