The Northern Land Council has laid out its final submissions in a “$225 million” compensation claim against the NT government on behalf of the Gudanji, Yanyuwa and Yanyuwa-Marra peoples over the expansion of the McArthur River Mine, the media has reported.

The ABC reported that in a three-day Federal Court hearing in Darwin that ended on Thursday NLC lawyers argued traditional owners were seeking at least $225 million in compensation for cultural and economic loss from the expansion of the mine and the construction of the nearby Bing Bong Port close to Borroloola, 970km southeast of Darwin.
