Solitary confinement no privileges spit hoods and restraints. Keep giving them warm and cuddly and there is no hope for rehabilitation.
Let’s hear about some serious consequences! Maybe for every $10k damage they get an extra year behind bars, between 6 that should give them some thinking time!
Lock them up longer then move them to Adult prison when they turn 18.
This is what happens when the unappreciative brats get resort style accommodation. An intercom ,properly installed should not be able to be removed. I have seen where things mounted on surface mount boxes in Juvenile detention got smashed because they stuck out from the wall. Obviously the standard of construction was not assessed for withstanding an assault by determined thugs. If this is the standard of behaviour that these youths have learnt then a cuddle and a Macca’s pack won’t change them. Time to introduce some role models and instill some discipline.
So what chance do the houses in their communities have if they can do this sort of damage to a detention facility?
There was a time, before cerebrally deficient social workers came to dominate juvenile justice, and judicial activism reared its ugly head, when down-to-earth welfare officers worked closely with police and youth workers and successfully rehabilitated 99% of wayward juveniles. This was because some youths were recognised as destroyed human beings for who rehabilitation was simply not a possibility. They were excluded from contact with normal youths. Likewise, these six should never have been transferred to Holtze. Whoever made that decision is as responsible for the damage as the six who now must pay restitution with mandatory labour. Any other outcome makes a joke of consequences and accountability.
Heads must roll publicly. First, the designer of this complex that would be massively expensive to run due to its design appearing to be for an aged person’s home not a detention facility. The next head must be the fool who approved the massive expenditure on this unsuitable facility; just think of the running costs, including, of course, all the bleeding heat professionals they intend to employ. But the one to be lopped tomorrow is whoever approved the occupation of this very unsuitable complex. Note the NT News has buried this completely.
