Two teens who smashed a stolen Audi into a tree in Palmerston have been arrested, with one of them on bail at the time of the crime and the other since bailed, NT Police said.
Police allege at around 2:10am on Friday February 4, two youth aged 15 and 17, allegedly broke into a Gunn property and stole “a number of small items including the keys to an Audi”.
Both teens allegedly drove the car a “short distance” before crashing it into a tree and fleeing the scene, police said.
The pair were arrested at Sanctuary Lakes later.
The 15-year-old, who was out on bail at the time of the incident, was charged with two counts of damaging property, aggravated unlawful entry, stealing, aggravated unlawful use of a vehicle, driving while unlicensed, negligent driving, leaving the scene of a collision, trespassing, possessing a controlled weapon at night and breaching bail.
He has been remanded in custody, police said, and is expected to front court today.
His accomplice, the 17-year-old male, was charged with similar offences, in addition to failure to comply with a youth order.
He was granted bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 15.
