A 13-year-old male is facing 14 charges related to a series of property offences in the northern suburbs over the last couple of weeks, NT Police said.
According to a statement, Strike Force Trident detectives arrested the teen yesterday and charged him with eight counts of stealing, “robbery in company”, trespassing, and two counts each of assault on a worker and damage to property.
Police said the youth was arrested and will appear in court today.
“It is always frustrating to see a youth charged with such a list of offences,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said.
The youth being put in remand is an unusual occurrence and the police rarely report arrests of children under 14 years of age, due to concerns from prosecutors.
The NT Independent revealed last month that Trident detectives were told by DPP officials that they could face referral to the ICAC if they arrest a child under 14 and cannot provide evidence that the offender knew their actions were wrong.
