A 17-year-old has been arrested in Alice Springs about 20 months after allegedly breaking into the Tennant Creek supermarket, NT Police have said.

Media manager Rob Cross said Strike Force Viper members arrested the boy on Friday morning, and he is alleged to have broken into and damaged the Tennant Creek supermarket, as well as stealing cash from it, sometime between 5:15pm on October 16, 2020, and 5:25am on October 17, 2020.

He said police identified the youth as the alleged offender at the time, and finally found him living in Alice Springs.

The teen was charged with unlawful entry of a building, damage to property, and stealing, Mr Cross said, and he was bailed to appear in court on July 4
