There are at least 550 events for young people and their families such as sports, arts and crafts, music and dance, cooking, and mentoring and support programs over the school holidays Youth Minister Lauren Moss said.

Starting December 15, families can swim, skate, bounce, bake, and do other activities, through programs delivered by community organisations, and local governments Ms Moss said

“There’s always something special about the end of year break,” she said.

“It includes Christmas and the exciting future promised by a new year that brings change but is also filled with opportunity.

Ms Moss said the return of Geektacular, a free event at the Casuarina Library, was among the highlight events in Darwin.

But, she said, there were more than 360 activities scheduled outside of Darwin, in Katherine, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, the Gove Peninsula, and in and around Palmerston, with most of the events and activities free.

“This school holiday program provides an exciting and diverse range of activities to keep everyone busy and connected, to make new friendships and to have a world of fun. School holidays provide an opportunity to connect with our families and communities,” Ms Moss said.
