The owners of the Yeperenye Shopping Centre in Alice Springs are planning a $27 million redevelopment of the facility, which will include a new supermarket tenant, and a rooftop restaurant.

Yeperenye Pty Ltd managing director Owen Cole said the redevelopment will feature a four-level car park with over 200 parking spaces, and facilities for click-and-collect services.

He said Yeperenye expects to confirm the new supermarket operator within the next year while the redevelopment – which includes serviced office space on the third floor of the building, along with a new rooftop restaurant designed for families – is anticipated to be completed in the third quarter of next year.

“We’d like to thank Woolworths for their fantastic support over the past four decades. They have been integral to the success of Yeperenye Shopping Centre, and we are looking forward to continuing our great working relationship over the next two years,” Mr Cole said.

“We are tremendously excited about the opportunity to completely refresh our supermarket offering as part of our $27 million redevelopment and add a new player to the Alice Springs market.

“We now have the ability to consider some of the leading retailers in Australia and we’ll use our expertise to match that to the needs of the community. Bringing another quality supermarket to the market will increase diversity, choice and competitiveness and that can only be for the betterment of Alice Springs.”

Mr Cole said Woolworths had been in the centre for 40-years but will be moving to Alice Plaza after its lease ends in February 2028.

He said there would also be more than 40 stores, including well-known brands like Telstra, Just Jeans, OPSM, EB Games, Platypus, and Jay Jays.
