A woman in Wadeye suffered a collapsed lung and was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital after being stabbed in the back multiple times with scissors on Sunday, NT Police said.

Superintendent Paul Faustmann said in a statement that about 5pm Sunday, police received reports that a 22-year-old woman had been stabbed in the back after a fight with a female youth.

He said the woman went to the local clinic and was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital suffering from a collapsed lung.

Police seized a pair of scissors allegedly used as a weapon, while a crime scene was established, and the alleged offender identified, Supt Faustmann said.

However there was no mention of the girl being arrested over the stabbing or how old she is.

“Local police and Serious Crime are investigating the incident and the injured woman thankfully received non-life threatening injuries,” Supt Faustmann said.

Supt Faustmann asked anyone who witnessed the stabbing to go to their local police station or to phone police on 131 444.
