A man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his partner to death in the remote community of Lajamanu, NT Police said.
Police director of communications Mark Wilton said that about 6.20pm on Monday police received a report of a seriously injured 42-year-old woman at the Lajamanu Health Clinic where a large crowd had gathered.
“Police attended…and the woman was declared deceased a short time later,” Mr Wilton said.
“It is believed she was stabbed with an edged weapon.”
Mr Wilton said the 46-year-old male partner of the woman was arrested nearby after being allegedly assaulted by unknown community members. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and remains in custody.
Two crime scenes were declared and Major Crime Unit detectives have taken over the investigation, Mr Wilton said.
The man expected to be charged in relation to the woman’s death on Tuesday evening.
Police are asking anyone with information to call them on 131 444 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
If you or someone you know are experiencing difficulties due to domestic violence, support services are available, including but not limited to 1800RESPECT (1800737732) and Lifeline 131 114.

Lajamanu is a supposedly dry community. A similar incident has occurred in Katherine recently. DV incidents are way too common and weapons are used often.
Our police are only there afterwards. There needs to be more done to change attitudes from a young age.
