A 32-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly indecently assaulting a female who was walking through the Palmerston golf course grounds shortly after 7am this morning, NT Police said, with the man later throwing a bottle at officers who were searching for him.

Police received reports of the assault of the female by the male she did not know around 7:10am.

The man allegedly approached the female “and indecently assaulted her before she screamed, and he fled the scene on foot”, police said.

Strike Force Trident members found the man nearby “a short time later”. Police said the man threw a bottle at officers during the attempted arrest, but was successfully detained.

“He remains in police custody with charges expected to follow,” police media director Mark Wilton said in a statement.

“Police urge anyone with information about the incident to make contact on 131 444, quoting reference number P25204673. Anonymous reports can be made through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://crimestoppersnt.com.au/.”
