Police have arrested a man over a hit-and-run in Darwin city on Friday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Corey Borton said a woman was hit by a Toyota Yaris traveling inbound on Tiger Brennan Drive near McMinn St, about 4am, and was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition.

Snr Sgt Borton said the car was found on The Esplanade not long after and a 27-year-old male was taken into custody.

He said any witnesses can call police on 131 444.
