Woman dragged towards riverbank by man in attempted sexual assault: Police

NT Police are seeking witnesses after an attempted sexual assault of a Katherine woman who was dragged towards the riverbank by an unidentified man around 8pm.

Police said the woman was walking along a footpath on Riverbank Drive when the man approached her from behind and dragged her off. The victim was able to escape from the man to seek help from patrolling officers nearby.

“The man is described as having dark skin, a scar under his right eyebrow and wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts,” said Senior Sergeant Paul Lawson.

“We urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have CCTV from the area, to contact police on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and reference PROMIS number 10029580.”

Katherine CIB and Crime Scene Examination Unit investigated the crime scene.
