A 31-year-old woman has been charged with murder over the death of a woman on Mitchell St, Darwin on Tuesday night, NT Police said.

In a statement on Thursday morning an un-named NT Police spokesperson said police arrested the woman soon after the alleged stabbing of two women in Mitchell St near Nuttall Place about 8:20pm Tuesday, and she has since been charged with murder, intending serious harm, and causing harm.

Police said she had been remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court Thursday.

In a statement on Wednesday Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey said that on Tuesday night police had received reports a group was fighting on Mitchell Street near the intersection of Nuttall Place.

The Nuttall Place Mitchell St intersection is where Monsoons Bar sits, close to Knuckey St.

He said the two woman had knife wounds, and taken to Royal Darwin Hospital, a 28-year-old in a serious condition, and a 33-year-old in a stable condition.

Snr Sgt Morrissey said the 28-year-old woman later died as a result of her injuries, and that Major Crime Squad were investigating.
