A 14-year-old allegedly knocked a 62-year-old woman off her electric scooter in Palmerston and proceeded to drive it around until being chased by the woman and a bystander, at which point an 18-year-old man who was also involved in the robbery is alleged to have fled the scene on the scooter, NT Police said.

Officers with the Dog Operations Unit were flagged down on Chung Wah Terrace at around 1:20am on Sunday by a member of the public to report the assault of the woman.

Police apprehended the teen following a foot pursuit and he was taken into custody.

“An 18-year-old man is alleged to have fled the scene in the stolen scooter, but was arrested after a lengthy foot chase with the K9 handler, who he allegedly assaulted using a length of fencing,” police said in a statement.

Police said the two males were arrested and charged over the unprovoked attack.

The youth was charged with aggravated robbery and damage to property and was bailed to appear in court at a later date.

The 18-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery, trespassing, assaulting a member of the police force and resisting police. He was expected to appear at Darwin Local Court today.
