Government fireworks displays will be held in 21 locations for Territory Day with other significant entertainment also being provided in Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, Tennant Creek, and Nhulunbuy, the Finocchiaro Government has said.

Territory Day is held on July 1 to mark the attainment of self-government from the federal government in 1978.

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said there would be “signature events” held in Darwin and Alice Springs.

“Territory Day is a part of who we are. It’s more than just fireworks. It’s about Territory pride, shared history, and celebrating our truly unique lifestyle,” Ms Finocchiaro said.

The Darwin event will be held at Mindil Beach from 4pm and will run alongside the sunset markets. It will feature circus workshops with Fringe star Dr Rubes, a silent disco, roving entertainers, and NT musicians, Crystal Robins, Kootsie Don, Marlon, CLINK, RileyP and SAME BLOOD (J-Milla & Yung Milla). The event is BYO alcohol but no glass is allowed. The fireworks display begins at 8:15pm.

The Alice Springs event will be held at Anzac Oval from 4pm with music from The Wanted Gems, Casii Williams, and SUB-TRIBE, as well as a new family-friendly area with heaters, kids’ activities and food stalls. The fireworks display begins at 7.30pm.

The Katherine event will take place at the showgrounds from 5pm, and will have market stalls, food vendors, and a performance by Brisbane country music band The Wet Whistles. The fireworks display begins at 8:30pm.

The Tennant Creek event will be held at the Barkly Arts Backyard, Karguru Centre, and will include music from Eleanor Jawurlngali, the Kulumindini Black Soil Band, Patsy Coleman, and the Work Camp Band. The fireworks display begins at 8:45pm.

The Nhulunbuy event will be held Hindle Oval 1 and Hindle Oval 2, from 4:30pm. There will be food, entertainment and music from Amber Lawrence, Buŋgul, and DJ Charly T & DJ Flo Flo Cee. The fireworks display begins at 9pm.
