A 33-year-old from an undisclosed West Arnhem community who was out on bail is facing multiple charges for the repeated sexual assault of a child under 14, who he is alleged to have abducted, NT Police said.
The man was arrested on July 5, following an “extensive investigation” that revealed the man had sexually abused the child multiple times between October and December 2025.
Police said in a statement that a “digital examination” of the suspect also led to the discovery of child abuse materials relating to the victim.
The 33-year-old is now facing 10 charges, including rape of a child under 14; gross indecency with a child under 14; abducting a child under 16; depriving a person of their liberty; repeated sexual abuse of a child under 16; possession of child abuse material and breach of bail.
The suspect was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court on September 29, 2026.
Under NT law, the suspect cannot be named until he is committed to stand trial.
“Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child abuse and exploitation are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or https://crimestoppers.com.au/,” said NT Police media director Mark Wilton in the statement.
