Wadeye man dies in hospital following assault last week

NT Police said a Wadeye man has died in hospital after being assaulted in the community a week ago.

Police are seeking help from the public in their investigation into the attack.

Major Crime Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Jon Beer said the 49-year-old man died in Royal Darwin Hospital on Tuesday after being taken off life support.

“Major Crime detectives have been investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s injuries since Friday,” Snr Sgt Beer said.

“The exact circumstances of how he suffered his injuries are currently unknown but police are treating the death as suspicious.”

Police previously said that about 4pm on September 19, officers were notified by clinic staff that the man had turned up with injuries that were believed to have occurred two days earlier on the evening of September 17.

The man‘s condition was said to have deteriorated and he we was flown to Darwin on September 19.

At that stage, police believed the man was with two men in the community when he was assaulted.

“Detectives are urging those within the community with any information to come forward,” Snr Sgt Beer said.

“Anyone with information, however significant, could help police reconstruct a timeline”.

Police are asking anyone with information, particularly anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage, to call them on 131 444 (quote reference NTP2400093976), visit their local police station, make an anonymous report by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or make a report through the Crime Stoppers’ website.

When will the Government understand that we need 3 communities, at least, around Wadeye and send the bill to the Catholic Church.?They can afford to pay for the damage, aggression, and deaths that they created on these people, as they did not understand, and probably still don’t a culture 30 times older than their own.
