Charles Darwin University vice-chancellor Scott Bowman was given a pay rise in the same year the university reduced its profitability by close to $40 million despite increasing revenue, CDU financial documents show.
The university’s most recent publicly available financial statements, which cover the 2023 calendar year and which were released last October, show a net after-tax loss of $18.5 million compared to a profit of $22.2 million in 2022. Adjusted to remove depreciation of both figures, the result was a profit of $980,000 in 2023, down from a profit of $39.2 million in 2022.

The Vice Chancellor is a walking contradiction. Grossly overpaid as his remuneration doesn’t include the massive amount of free travel and other extras he receives. CDU haven’t had a decent VC for decades. They all blow in and restructure the place, turn it on its head and reward the laziest staff who suck up to them. One will centralize admin, the next will then decentalize and allow the worst people to make the decision about most important issues there, always wasting money. It’s a terribly dysfunctional place.
