Blackouts in the Darwin‑Katherine power system will occur within three years unless the government deals with the anticipated nearly 50 per cent reduction in peak electricity generation capacity from the Channel Island power station, the Utilities Commission of the Northern Territory has warned in its latest report.
The 2022 Northern Territory Electricity Outlook Report provides a 10‑year outlook for electricity generation and use, from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2032, for the Darwin‑Katherine, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek power systems.
No wonder they want to hike up power prices. Lack of planning and foresight always leads to higher costs. I hate to think how much money has been wasted on idle solar farms. We will end up like everywhere else in Australia and forfeit our chances of developing the NT if costs cannot be controlled.
Can the Fyles Government please call former ALP Chief Minister Paul Henderson and ask him about the massive power outage that occurred a few weeks out from a Territory Election, and ask if he ever recovered from it?
