A man has died after his ute collided with the back of a truck in Palmerston on Sunday, NT Police said.

Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that about 9am Sunday the ute collided the back of a truck in an outbound lane of the Stuart Highway at the intersection with Lambrick Avenue, Palmerston.

He said the 77-year-old man was trapped in the ute and paramedics performed CPR once he was extracted but he was unable to be revived and he was declared dead at 9.35am, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone who witnesses the crash, or who has dashcam footage, to call police on 131 444, and quote number P24067262.
