A male has undergone emergency surgery for “lacerations” after a group fight in Alice Springs, one of three group fights in the town on Wednesday night, Northern Territory Police have said, however the police have given no explanation about how the man received his injuries.

Acting Commander Kirsten Engels said in a statement police dealt with three groups fighting in Alice Springs starting at 7:50pm, where she said a group was fighting with “edged weapons” on Coolibah St, East Side.

She said when police arrived the group ran away, and left eleven edged weapons, two blunt weapons, and a firearm.

Comdr Engels said that at 9pm, there were up to 50 people fighting in a carpark adjacent to Railway Terrace, and police took one “edged weapon”.

She said police also dealt with another group fighting on Erumba St, Braitling at 9pm, finding two males, a 17-year-old and an 18-year old, with “lacerations”. With both taken to Alice Springs Hospital, where one ran off soon after, and the other underwent emergency surgery.

No further information was provided about what happened to the pair, including what weapons were used.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene, Comdr Engels said.

“At this stage it is believed both the East Side and Railway Terrace incidents are linked,” she said.

If you have any information you can call police on 131 444, or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
