An allegedly intoxicated teen driver has been arrested after hitting two pedestrians, who were believed to be known to the driver, in Girraween on Tuesday night, police said.

NT Police Watch Commander Mick Fields said the incident happened around 7:30pm in Goy Road, in the Darwin rural area, where a vehicle struck two pedestrians, aged 17 and 23.

“One of them was treated at the scene and the other was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital,” Cdr Fields told ABC Radio Darwin.

“A 17-year-old youth was arrested, and he’ll appear in court at a later date for his driving offenses.”

Cdr Fields said the male teen driver and the pedestrians were known to each other.

“More than likely that alcohol was involved in this occasion,” he added.

But he did not clarify if both the pedestrians and the driver were intoxicated when the incident happened.

No details were provided as to whether the teenage driver is licensed or if the vehicle he used was registered.
