A lack of police staff in remote areas is putting officer’s lives at risk, the union says, after an alleged attempted axe attack on two police officers in Wadeye last month, where sources told the NT Independent it was only through the intervention of the alleged attacker’s family that the officers escaped injury.

Sources have said one of the officers had flown out of the Territory soon after the attempted attack.
