Two men were charged with domestic violence offences in separate incidences in Casuarina and Palmerston, NT Police have said.
The first offender, a 39-year-old man has been charged with several domestic violence offences around Casuarina. He was arrested last Wednesday night by general duties police and is scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
Police allege the man initially assaulted his 31-year-old female partner on Rowling Street on January 17, where he escaped after beating the victim. Twelve days later on January 29, the offender allegedly beat his partner again at a service station on Trower Road in Casuarina. Both had left the location before the police arrived.
The man then allegedly assaulted his partner again last January 25 with a knife, again on Trower Road, causing a laceration to her left arm.
Following investigations made by Strike Force Lyra, the offender was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, and four counts of engaging in contravention of DVO, police said.
“Domestic and family violence is reprehensible behaviour and remains a priority for NT police,” Constable First Class Lauren Grasby said.
“It is also a reminder to the public that in the Northern Territory, you must report Domestic and Family Violence. We would like to extend our thanks to members of the public who continue to provide aid and make reports to police.”
Another man was also arrested and charged with recklessly endangering serious harm, aggravated assault, and engaging in conduct that contravenes a DVO by the Domestic and Family Violence Unit in Palmerston on Thursday night.
Police said that the 41-year-old man allegedly repeatedly assaulted his 47-year-old female partner on the corner of Temple Terrace and Maluka Drive.
The victim was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment. The man was arrested by police after being identified by security officers in the area. He will be appearing in Darwin Local Court on Monday.
“There is no excuse for this sort of violent behaviour, it has no place in our community and police will continue to do everything we can to hold offenders to account,” Detective Senior Sergeant Justin Bentley said.
Witnesses of domestic or family violence, and victims, are urged by the police to call 131 444 or 000 in an emergency.
Support services for victims are available by calling 1800RESPECT (1800737732) or Lifeline 131 114.
