Matt Wright’s Top End Safari Camp has confirmed an airboat crash at the Bynoe bush resort sent two tourists to hospital.
NT WorkSafe said in a statement it was notified an airboat used for a tourist cruise crashed in the Bynoe region at 11:15am on Wednesday morning.
It is understood two women, aged 43 and 54, were injured and taken to hospital, one with head injuries and one with lower leg injuries.
“NT WorkSafe Inspectors are currently at the incident site and have commenced an enquiry into the incident to determine the appropriate regulatory response,” a spokesman said.
Sources told the NT Independent there had been an airboat crash at the camp and Top End Safari Camp later confirmed the incident at Sweets Lagoon on the property, about 110km southwest of Darwin at Bynoe.
“We will be working with authorities to review the incident in due course. At the moment our focus is exclusively on supporting those passengers and staff involved,” an unnamed spokesperson for the camp was quoted as saying.
It was reported Care Flight flew the two women to Royal Darwin Hospital.
Wright’s friend and Outback Wrangler co-star Chris Wilson was killed in a helicopter crash while he was said to be on a crocodile egg collection trip involving two other helicopters in 2022.
He turned himself in to NT Police at the end of November last year and was formally charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice, making threats to witnesses, destroying and fabricating evidence, unlawful entry to a building and a dwelling, making a false declaration and issuing threats in relation to a criminal investigation in connection to the helicopter crash in West Arnhem Land
Two others have also been charged in connection with the fatal crash, helicopter pilot Mick Burbidge and former police officer Neil Mellon, who have both been charged with similar offences.
All three men are fighting the charges.
