An 13-year-old and an 18-year-old have been arrested after allegedly crashing a stolen car following dangerous driving in Darwin’s northern suburbs on Tuesday morning, NT Police said.
NT government crime marketing manager Sita Bacher said in a statement that about 4am a Toyota Echo sedan was reported stolen from a Wagaman home, and two hours later the car was seen by police CCTV operators allegedly driving dangerously on McMillans Rd before colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Kalymnos Drive in Karama.
She alleged the teenagers ran from the car after the crash while the driver of the other vehicle was treated for unspecified injuries.
Strike Force Trident, the Dog Operations Unit and general duties officers searched for the duo, and the 18-year-old female and the 13-year-old male were arrested nearby, Ms Bacher said, and they were expected to be charged with traffic and property offences later today.
Ms Bacher said detectives are urging anyone with information, particularly dash-cam footage of the vehicle, to call police on 131 444. You can also report anonymously through crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
