Two thirteen-year-old boys have been charged with car theft and serious breaches of bail, after they allegedly stole a taxi from a Fannie Bay house on Monday morning, NT Police have said.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said in a statement a taxi was stolen from a house on Ross Smith Avenue about 4am and that the car was allegedly later seen travelling at high speed through the Darwin, before stopping at a service station in Palmerston.
He said the pair were spotted by police CCTV operators, but they ran away.
Snr Sgt Bland said later that evening the dog operations unit arrested them at a Parap unit complex.
One was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed, driving without a wearing a seat-belt, and a serious breach of bail, he said.
Snr Sgt Bland said the second boy was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and a serious breach of bail, and that other charges were likely to be laid after the viewed the taxi CCTV footage.
