Assistant Minister for Indigenous Australians Malarndirri McCarthy says it is an “incredible time in Australia’s history” as Australians will be able to vote for the Voice to Parliament in the coming weeks, Sky News has reported. Pre-polling for the referendum has begun in certain states and territories. Australia was accused by France of menacing the NATO relationship

France has accused Australia of threatening its relationship with NATO by supporting a new UN treaty – Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. France believes the support for the 2021 treaty undermines the importance of the 1968 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which was signed by Australia and all major nuclear powers. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese believes the support for the new treaty is the Labor Party doing its best. The new treaty is backed by 93 nations, but none of them are major nuclear powers, Sky News reported.

Repairing and reusing products a new norm amid rising inflation

Australian consumers fighting growing cost-of-living pain are increasingly looking to repair essential products rather than replace them, saving money and stemming pressure on landfills, Financial Review reported.

Research commissioned by waste management giant Veolia Australia New Zealand found nearly 80 per cent of consumers said they would repair an important item like clothing, white goods or a laptop rather than replace it. More than 50 per cent said saving money was a key motivator for choosing repair.
