Deep concerns raised for a captive reporter in China
Canberra called for a jailed Australian journalist to be released and reunited with her family, as the broadcaster marked 1,000 days in detention in China, Punch.com has reported. Cheng Lei, a former anchor at Chinese state broadcaster CGTN, disappeared on August 13, 2020, and was later charged with “supplying state secrets overseas”. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong expressed “deep concerns” about delays in Lei’s case, which many believe to be politically motivated. Lei, a mother of two, is one of several foreign citizens detained by China as their countries locked horns with Beijing. Since her disappearance, Lei has had limited contact with the outside world and only monthly consular visits.

Unilever invests $9.5 million to manufacture laundry capsules
Unilever Australia has invested $9.5 million into its Western Sydney facility, which will see it become the first manufacturer in Australia to produce laundry capsules. The investment at the North Rocks facility will see the installation of state-of-the-art processing and packaging machinery, complimenting previous investments in technology at the plant, including cobots and laser-guided vehicles (LGVs). The popularity of the capsule format is growing because it achieves a more powerful wash by combining different enzymes which previously could not be combined in liquid or powder formats, Convenience and Impulse Retailing reported.

Airline passengers to receive compensation for delayed or cancelled flights
Australian airlines could soon be forced to pay cash compensation to passengers whose flights are delayed or cancelled as the government faces mounting calls to introduce laws to rein in carriers arbitrarily changing their schedules, The Guardian has reported. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, consumer advocate Choice and the Australian Lawyers Alliance have all separately raised the prospect of a compensation scheme as the government considers its aviation white paper. Forcing airlines to compensate passengers for cancelled flights could also help address slot availability issues at airports such as Sydney, where legislation caps the number of take-offs and landings.

Australia-dedicated Nikes to be out soon
After referencing the classic “Silver Bullet” colourway and digging into the ACG archive for inspiration, the Nike Air Max 90 now returns in a special “Pistachio Green” colourway dedicated to the country of Australia. The upcoming pairs feature a white leather base with silver leather overlay panels. “Gum-tree green and wattle-gold” is typically worn by Australia’s sports teams, including its national cricket team and Olympic team for this special-edition AM90. The heel banner, lateral cutouts, and eye stays notably appear in a semi-translucent rubber finish while the tongue tabs and insoles feature “AU” branding. Rounding out the design are Air bubble midsoles and gum rubber outsoles.
