Aukus spending triggers appeals to increase the aid budget
The massive Aukus price tag resulted in calls to boost aid funding, with the sector lobbying the Australian government not to dismiss such measures as an optional “luxury”, The Guardian has reported. The nuclear-powered submarine program is estimated to cost between $268 and $368 billion by the mid-2050s. Humanitarian and development organisations have pointed to this allocation as proof that “significant funds” are available if the government shows political will. “There are funds that are available and I suppose it’s about the way people choose to prioritise those funds,” ChildFund chief executive Margaret Sheehan said.

Renting is cheaper than buying a home in Australia
The number of suburbs where it’s cheaper to buy than rent has been slashed in the past year, due to a record number of rate hikes that have outpaced skyrocketing rents. Houses are cheaper to rent than buy in every suburb in the ACT, Melbourne and Sydney while 100 per cent of suburbs in Hobart, Sydney, regional South Australia and regional Tasmania were cheaper to rent than buy a unit in February 2023. Several more cities and regional areas are also close to having any suburbs where it’s cheaper to buy a home than rent wiped out, Core Logic reported said.

Crackdown on video games with simulated gambling
Australia’s federal government wants to put an R18+ rating on all video games that offer simulated gambling, including those that offer casino games, Casino.org has reported. If the changes cross the finish line, gamers under 18 will not be able to buy any games that offer simulated gambling. The new measures have the approval of Communications Minister Michelle Rowland, who has been an integral member of Australia’s gambling reform.

While Ms White did have to go into surgery after filming with fellow adult entertainer Kiernan Lee—known for his notable manhood. She clarified that it was for her appendix which has to be surgically removed after suffering abdominal pains. “The timing was a likely coincidence,” she said. “I will say that (Lee) does reach organs that I don’t know should be reached by a penis… but there’s a lot more room in there to accommodate, now that it’s been removed.”
