Almost 8 million driver’s licenses and passport numbers were stolen in Australia
Digital payments and lending firm Latitude Holdings said that 7.9 million Australian and New Zealand driver’s license numbers were stolen in a large-scale information theft last March 16, CNN has reported. Apart from the driver’s licence numbers stolen, the Australian fintech firm also identified about 53,000 passport numbers were stolen, and fewer than 100 customers had a monthly financial statement stolen. Earlier this month, Latitude took its platform offline and said the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Cyber Security Centre were looking into the attack.

Obama draws a crowd in Sydney
Former US president Barack Obama has met the prime minister and taken a sandy stroll after arriving in Australia, The Advertiser reported. Mr Obama strolled Collins Beach in Manly yesterday with ambassador Caroline Kennedy, had lunch at Balmoral and even managed to fit in a meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Kirribilli. Mr Obama will speak in Sydney and Melbourne this week alongside former foreign minister and ANU chancellor Julie Bishop, who will moderate the discussion on leadership and global politics.

Australia-made tanks to be supplied to Germany
Australian-made tanks are one step closer to rolling into Germany after a deal was struck to start formal negotiations to supply the Bundeswehr with 100 Queensland-built Boxer heavy weapon carrier vehicles, The Mandarin has reported. The small tanks, which would be locally constructed at Rheinmetall’s Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Brisbane (MILVEHCOE), are intended to replenish German numbers of similar vehicles slated for delivery to Ukraine as it continues to try and fend off the Russian invasion.

Australian holidaymakers are seen to spend more on travel this Easter Holiday
Australia’s holidaymakers are set to spend over 9.1 billion Australian Dollars (about 6.1 billion U.S. dollars) on travel this year, seeing an increase of 2 billion Australian dollars (about 1.3 billion U.S. dollars) from Easter last year, according to the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) and Roy Morgan. Approximately 4.6 million Australians plan to take a holiday during the Easter period, of which 61 per cent will travel within their state, 30 per cent to go interstate and 9 per cent overseas. The expected domestic spending, either intrastate or interstate, is around 6.5 billion Australian dollars (about 4.3 billion U.S. dollars), the Urdupoint Network reported.
