Meningococcal disease cases up in SA
A case of invasive meningococcal disease has been notified in a 25-year-old man from metropolitan Adelaide, who is now in critical condition. South Australia Health has identified multiple people who had contact with the patient. There have been ten cases of invasive meningococcal disease reported in SA this year. A total of 14 cases were reported in 2022. As vaccines do not protect against all types of meningococcal, vaccinated people must still be alert for symptoms of meningococcal disease. Queensland tourism sees record visitors in post-COVID boom
Queensland tourism is seeing all-time domestic visitor records, with a whopping 11.3 million Australians travelling to the state in the year to March, SkyNews Australia has reported. The figures are expected to come down however as holidaymakers take advantage of international travel opening back up. Expected occupancy rates in Port Douglas are averaging about 85 per cent over the coming four weeks. However, the limited inbound flights remain a challenge for the recovering sector.

Australia, NZ consider joint bid for 2029 Club World Cup
Football Australia (FA) chief James Johnson believes FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup is going to be a big success and is mulling a joint bid with New Zealand to host the second edition in 2029, Reuters reported. Australia and New Zealand will co-host the Women’s World Cup in July and August this year and Johnson has already said that could be a springboard for a joint bid for the men’s version, possibly in 2034. The first edition of the expanded 32-team Club World Cup, the brainchild of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, will take place in the United States in 2025 and Johnson said he was convinced it would take off.
